Nightbreak / Australian Sapphire & Sterling Silver Pendant+ Chain

This is a super special piece featuring my most valuable stone yet! This gorgeous untreated, deep blue 1.4 carat Australian sapphire was hand cut by Gembug Australian Sapphires from sapphire found on their property. They named it "Night". I had never set a freeform faceted stone, let alone one so pricey (the stone alone is worth over $250 USD!) and so this took a lot of research and planning. I ended up starting a wax setting that I cast at Theresa Applegate's Workshop. Once in metal, I had to further carve and open the seat and then solder on prongs. 
 
The gorgeous sapphire, suspended from a single wire, is surrounded by a hexagonal border of torn rectangular wire that is borderd itself by tattered, textured, and stitched silver sheet. Finished by another border of beaded wire, an asymmetrical wire and tube bail, and hexagonal hook clasp, this pendant is a bold, detailed elegant, edgy work of wearable art!
